Beauty’s foodie trend continues to whet consumer appetites alongside unique sensorials and longevity. With autumn in the air, that goes double for pumpkin spice everything.
Per Yelp, searches for “pumpkin spice latte” and “pumpkin latte” this past July increased by 301% and 256%, respectively, compared with the same search data from the prior year.
Yelp Trend Expert Tara Lewis told The Food Institute that excitement is brewing as restaurants update their seasonal menu offerings. The same is ringing true for the beauty and household care industries.
Mrs. Meyer’s has introduced its new sugar pumpkin scent to its slate of household cleaning and personal care products. In lieu of leaning into the traditional spice-forward profile, Sugar Pumpkin blends warm, golden and candied notes. Sugar Pumpkin is available across its Premium Scented Oil Diffuser; Dish Soap; Hand Soap; and Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner.
Thrive Causemetics has relaunched its Hero Liquid Balm Lip Treatment in Pumpkin Spice Latte. Powered by “Lip Filler Technology” and botanical extracts, the treatment coats lips in “long-lasting, cushiony moisture,” said the company.
Woodhouse Spa recently introduced Pumpkin & Orange Spice seasonal treatments. The lineup of products from FarmHouse Fresh brings what officials call an “autumn-inspired” experience to guests. Treatments feature pumpkin, orange spice, honey and cinnamon, paired with sea salt, rice bran oil and vitamin E for exfoliation and moisture. The spa’s Pumpkin Spice Fizzer opens the treatments with a warm pumpkin spice soak.
“Pumpkin spice captures the mood of fall, and Woodhouse wanted to bring that feeling into the spa,” Stephanie Kosack, learning and development training manager, at Woodhouse Spa, told Happi. “Guests look forward to warm, seasonal treatments this time of year, and it’s become a meaningful moment where they can slow down and savor the season.”
The Pumpkin & Orange Spice offerings are available across 50-minute massages and body treatments; manicures; pedicures; and hand treatments.
With cozy season in the air, Tree Hut has whipped up a pumpkin roll in shea sugar scrub format. Whipped with real sugar crystals and shea butter, the scrub delivers lasting hydration in a blend of pumpkin, vanilla and spice accord. Perfect for use to prep legs before shaving or in the shower on the upper arms and décolleté, it buffs away dry skin without stripping moisture. With a six-oil blend of avocado, macadamia seed, evening primrose, sweet almond, hemp seed and coconut, additional notes include lemon, orange, rose, peony, green apple, coconut, sandalwood and musk.
“Pumpkin spice is a scent and flavor that doesn’t lose its season luster year after year,” Lindsey Scales, VP of marketing at Tree Hut told Happi. “The scent has gone beyond a trend, and it’s an expectation from fall-obsessed girlies including myself. There is something about Pumpkin Spice that cues our busy brains to slow down and realize we are about to embark on the busy holiday season, so take an extra moment to drink the latte, scrub the scrub, light the candle!”
American fragrance brand Le Monde Gourmand, owned by Tru Fragrance & Beauty, says it has the fragrance equivalent of a pumpkin spice latte with the return of its Pumpkin Crème Eau de Parfum. With notes of pumpkin spice, nutmeg, frothed milk, musk and sandalwood, the brand likens the scent to spritzers transported to crisp, foliage-filled mornings with a pumpkin spice latte in hand.
Happi Indie Brand to Watch Alaffia, whose mission is economic empowerment, clean water access and restoration in West Africa, has released a limited-edition pumpkin spice soap for the season. Crafted with Fair Trade certified unrefined shea butter that is handmade using centuries-old techniques by the women of Alaffia’s cooperatives, its pumpkin spice-scented Good Soap is a blend of warm pumpkin, cinnamon, chai and clove to make bath time cozier for parents and children alike.
Candlemaker Glasshouse says the new Harvest Muse candle is its most luxurious interpretation of pumpkin to date. Considered the successor of the brand’s Pumpkin Spiced Cake candle, Harvest Muse is likened to the whiff of a baking pumpkin pie, a crackling fire and a “golden glow” wafting the home with cinnamon spice and caramel undertones. Top notes include white pumpkin and warm cashmere; heart notes are dark plum, cinnamon bark, clove and cardamom; and base notes contain whipped vanilla and musk. Its vessel features a burnt-orange matte finish enfolded in a laser-cut leaf design that illuminates when lit.
Household brand Archipelago Botanicals appreciates the rich scent of pumpkin like a rich cup of coffee. Its hand-poured Pumpkin Macchiato Jar Candle consists of a blend of crushed pumpkin seed with notes of espresso and vanilla bean. It should last all season with a burn time of roughly 60 hours.
This past Summerween—the time between June and August when Halloween enthusiasts get a head start on their favorite holiday—Happi Top 50 Company Bath & Body Works teamed with Disney to introduce a Nightmare Before Christmas collection.
The Jack Skellington Gentle & Clean Foaming Hand Soap in that collection is billed “smoldering, sweet and a little mischievous” with notes of pumpkin, palo santo and spiced vanilla and infused with vitamin E, shea and aloe.
“Fragrance is one of the most powerful ways to tell a story, and this collection allowed us to tap into the enchanting world of The Nightmare Before Christmas through scent,” said Kristie Lewis, executive vice president, merchandising at Bath & Body Works.
